Local YMCA Plans Active Summer

The Henry County YMCA includes people from all walks of life coming together to support each other and strengthen the community. The YMCA has planned several activities to keep the community engaged and connected over the summer.

“The YMCA strives to provide programs that will nurture the potential of every person in our community,” states Cheryl York, Director of Member Relations of the Henry County YMCA. “We have added several summer programs designed to keep everyone active.”

Youth T-ball and Coaches Pitch registration is open now until June 17, with the season starting in mid-summer. T-ball and Coaches Pitch is a co-ed league for kids aged 4 – 6. Participants must be 4 by July 1. The cost is $45 for YMCA members or $70 for program participants, which includes a team shirt and hat. Learn more about Youth T-Ball and Coaches Pitch.

The Summer Swim Challenge is scheduled to begin on June 1 and continues through August 1. This swim challenge is open to YMCA members of all ages. Participants will track their swimming with a goal of 50 miles. After completing the challenge, members will receive a 50-mile t-shirt. The cost to register is $10. The Summer Day Camp is scheduled to begin on June 3 and will run weekdays through July 26. Summer Day camp is for kids aged 5-12 and has daily or weekly rates. Campers will need to bring swimsuits. Space is limited each day. The daily cost is $35 for members or $40 for program participants. The weekly cost is $125/$145. Learn more about Summer Day Camp.

Summer Dance Camp is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, June 5. Classes will be held every Wednesday evening in June and will be divided by age and class focus. All classes will be with Lisa Love, from the Muncie Ballet Studio. The cost is $50 for members or $65 for program participants. All participants will provide their own shorts/shirts or dance leotards. Tap/ballet shoes are required. Learn more about Summer Dance Camp.

Summer Cheer Camp is scheduled to run and will have 2 sessions. The sessions will run daily between Monday, June 17 – Friday, June 21 or Monday, July 22 – Friday, July 26. These classes will be 10 am – 1 pm for kids from Kindergarten through 5th grade. The class is taught by YMCA instructor Lacy Tutrow. The cost is $130 for members or $150 for program participants per session. Parents will sign up to provide one group drink or snack day during the session. The YMCA will provide a shirt. Baton Twirling is a new program to be offered at the YMCA. Terri Smith will be the instructor for this program. Smith has been baton twirling since she was 5 years old and has been an instructor for 50 years. The first session is scheduled to run on Wednesdays from 6 – 7 pm from July 17 – August 14. from 6 –  7 pm. These classes are for kids from Kindergarten through 5th grade. The cost is $65 for members or $85 for program participants. The YMCA will provide a shirt and baton. All participants will provide their own black shorts, white bobby socks, and white canvas tennis shoes. Learn more about Baton Twirling Classes.
