Health & Fitness

The major components of a comprehensive fitness program should include cardiovascular exercise, strength training, flexibility, and proper nutrition. The YMCA has certified Personal Trainers and Wellness Instructors that are available to help you design and maintain a personalized fitness program that will help you achieve your goals.

We offer free, unlimited fitness orientations for new and established members. We'll be happy to show you how to use equipment, talk to you about fitness options, and answer your questions about topics such as:

  • Cardio equipment (treadmills, bikes & ellipticals)
  • Strength equipment (free weights & machines)
  • Basic stretching
  • Group fitness classes
  • Sports leagues
  • Other wellness opportunities

Call or stop by the front desk to schedule your fitness orientation with a wellness staff person.

The purpose of the fitness assessment is to access your current level of health. This is extremely valuable when developing an activity program to help achieve fitness goals. A fitness assessment provides feedback to help plan your physical activity program. It establishes baseline measures to evaluate your progress and can help you to determine reasonable and attainable goals. It also provides education on flexibility, cardiovascular training, and strength training.

This is a great starting point to keep track of your fitness improvements and help you identify what areas you should focus on in your workout routine. We’ll do body fat, body mass index, heart rate, blood pressure and cardiovascular and muscular testing.  The fitness assessment is free for members and can be scheduled at our front desk.

The first step in starting a new fitness program is setting appropriate and realistic goals. Schedule a 30 minute goal setting appointment with a member of the wellness staff. This will give you an opportunity to meet one-on-one with a fitness professional to help you establish individualized short-term and long-term goals before starting your fitness program.
